Question
QUESTION: We have a bunny with an inner ear infection. He is being treated with chloraphenicol palmitate 1.5ml 2x/day. He suffers with head tilt and bouts of vertigo. The vertigo last any where from 2 through 10 minutes and occur about 4 to 6 times per day. What can we give our little guy for this dizziness condition?

ANSWER: Dear Thomas,

We have found that meclizine can help with the vertigo.  Please ask your vet about this, and also please see:

www.rabbit.org/health/tilt.html

for a complete overview of all the possible causes (and some treatments) for this condition.  You can read my own personal experience with it here:

I hope your bunny will be well soon!

QUESTION: p.s.
our baby "Jett", is 6lbs 2oz how much meclizine would you prescribe?

Answer
Dear Thomas,

I cannot prescribe anything, since I'm not a vet.  :)

However, I can tell you that we have used 1/2 of a 12mg tablet for a bunny that size.  Please be sure to use these medications under the supervision of an experienced rabbit vet.

I hope he'll feel better soon.
