Question
We had a pet dwarf rabbit that die the other day,It was 2 years old.We went downstairs to feed it in the morring about 7:30 it was just sitting it look like it did not feel good, pick it up look at it petted it, put it back in his cage he went back to his corner and just seat there.Came home work and he was dead.I have a question,we found a kitten about 2 months ago that was hit by a car. We nurse it back to health ,durring the 2 month we were nursing the kitten back to health it was sick for a week or two,But when the kitten started to feel better the kitten and rabbit played together. We no longer have the kitten we give it to a good friend. Can you tell me if the kitten could have had the rabbit bacterial infection or a disease or hurt the rabbit while playing together they where about the same size.
Thanks for your time.

Answer
Dear Randy,

I am very sorry about your loss.

Without a necropsy including histopathology of major tissues, there is no way to know why your bunny died.  It could have been any of dozens of different things.  But if a bunny acts the way yours did, it's important to get him to a vet immediately.  Please see:

And if you still have your bunny's body kept cool, then you can find a good rabbit vet here for a post mortem exam, should you choose to have one done:

Cats have mouths and claws loaded with potentially deadly bacteria (e.g., Pasteurella, Bartonella), and even a tiny scratch can be very dangerous.  So if the kitten was playing too roughly with the rabbit, that is a possibility.

I am sorry.
