Infected Bite

Question
Hi,
My female dwarf lop has a few bites around her tail following a fight with her bonded partner. Unfortunately I didn't spot these until they've become infected. She is having Baytril and Hibiscrub washes daily along with Metacam.
How long should it take before the wounds stop weeping as she is becoming increasingly difficult to bathe and medicate! I'm worried about abcesses as I know bunnies are particularly prone to these. Is there anything else my vet, or I can do for her?

Thanks a lot

Answer
Dear Kerry,

Keep the area well clipped of fur so it's easier to bathe.  I've recently discovered the most amazing disinfectant that kills bacteria better than any scrub or flush on the market up 'til now.  It's called Technicare, and it penetrates to the dermis in less than 3 minutes, killing bacteria as effectively as a napalm strike.

We've applied this surgical scrub to open, infected wounds full strength, allowed it to soak in for 3 minutes, and then swabbed off the remainder (probably not good for the bunny to ingest it!), and the infection heals incredibly fast.

I would highly recommend this as a substitute for the Hibiscrub.  You can find Technicare here:

No prescription required, but be sure to ask your vet about this and do any treatments under veterinary supervision, as always.  If your vet is interested in reading the Technicare specs, s/he can find them here:

If the infection doesn't clear up soon, then it's possible that the antibiotic chosen isn't the right one for the job, and a culture and sensitivity test might be necessary:

but I'm betting the Technicare will really do the trick for you.  It's been fantastic for us.

I hope this helps!
