Question
QUESTION: i have a brazilian rabbit but i cant find anything about them either on line or in any books i've been told that they are also called tapeti or forest rabbits so i was wondering if there is anything you can tell me or any website that actually does cause so far wikipedia is the only site that did not a lot but so far more then others

ANSWER: Hi Amanda,

although Brazillian rabbits exist, if you live in the USA they most likely are pulling your leg.  It is more likely to be an Agouti rabbit (ie one that looks like a wild cottontail, but is really a domesticated rabbit).  A real brazillian rabbit would be wild and not be used to being around people.  It would also not be used to the climates or geography up here.  They are probably using this as a marketing gimmick to make people pay more by thinking they are getting a more exotic pet.

QUESTION: my bunny only cost $25 at the pet store i got it from but if it isn't a brazilian what kind is it she is all white dark blue eyes 2 1\2 lbs and the top of her tail is blckish white and i cant find any other pictures of rabbits to match her up with besides either a new zealand or a mini satin

Answer
Hi Amanda,

there really is no way to know for certain.  I just know she doesn't have the characteristics of a brazillian rabbit, from what you describe.  She may be a Britannia Petite, or a Satin.  Breeders only sell off the less than perfect (not show quality) rabbits to pet stores so they will have markings and such that you are not going to see on a show quality rabbit, so that is what makes it harder to tell.  For pet owners, it doesn't really matter as long as you love her.  Just love her and when she's sexually mature, get her spayed by a good rabbit vet.
