eye mite

My rabbit is about 1 year old. He lives outdoors. I noticed he has a small black spot on the pink liner around the outside of his eye.It has been ther for about a week. Please tell me if this is a mite and if I have to go to a vet or if I take care of it myself Thank-you

Dear Rusty,

Without seeing the spot, I cannot begin to guess what it might be.  It is probably *not* a mite, however.  They are nearly microscopic, and not black.

If you are concerned, you should get your bunny to a good rabbit vet:

so s/he can have an in-person look and tell you whether this something that requires treatment or not.
