Wet Bum!

Question
Hello there.

I have 6 rabbits.. however one of them (the mother of 4 of them) has a wet bum and tail. About 3 weeks ago we noticed she had a wet bum, so we cleaned her and tryed to keep her dry, we took her to the vets. The vet checked for blood in urine, which showed she did have and he put her on a course of anti biotics for 2 weeks. However, within one week something terrible happened, she was hit by flystrike.. she need stitches but she has recovered from that now, and he better. Her wet bum stopped too.. she has been fine since.. we had kept her inside and didnt let her out in the garden much coz of the flystrike (mind you she didnt seem to want to go outside) so she was kept indoors. we decided to put her back outside in the shed and shes only been outside in shed for about 4/5 days and shes seem to be getting a wet bum again!

i took her to vets today and he checked for blood in urine... but there was none. he checked her stomach and as he was gently sqeezin her stomach or underneath her stomach she was leaking urine. she kept doing this everytime he woul.d gently sqeeze her.

the vet said this is the first time he seen this happen to a rabbit.. and was confused about what was wrong with her.. anyway he didn't treat her and said he wanted to speak to the other vets and other specialists about it and i should come back in acouple of days.

do you know what might be wrong with my rabbit...

she is a 18 month old dwarf lop.. she has 4 bunnies about 11 months ago and she is not neauterd/spayed (the males are spayed).

she has gone through a hell of a lot.. shes my sweetheart and i just want her better and back with her bunnies..

please help..

by the way we have decided to keep her back in doors and she is on newspapers instead of wood shavings now.

thankyou in advanced

Answer
Dear Kiran,

You need a vet who is more experienced with rabbits.  A female, unspayed rabbit with blood in the urine may have uterine cancer or other uterine disorder, which is *very* common in these bunnies.  Please read:

www.bio.miami.edu/hare/spay.html

and find a more experienced vet here:

Please also see:

www.bio.miami.edu/hare/urinary.html

for other possible causes of her wet bum.  There are several, and each has a specific treatment.

I hope this helps.
