Bunny concern

Question
Dear Dana
I just read Ella's message to you and I am starting to get concerned about my bunny as well. I have two. Shadow is 2, he is male neutered and I think he is ok. Masha is almost 3 and she is female, not spayed.
Reason why she is not spayed is because she was bought at a pet store. Shadow was adopted from Oregon humane society. I don't know if this is connected but Masha has been peeing everywhere lately. It is large quantities and when it dries out it is a stark white chalk like residue.
She is playful and otherwise good but I have never seen her pee outside her litter. I don't know what to do. I have contacted a vet to get her spayed because I read about all the potential health concerns when they are not fixed but now I don't know what to do about this problem. Please advise.
Thank you,

Mila

Answer
Dear Mila,

You're taking the right first step by having her spayed.  But when you bring her to the vet, be sure to mention your concerns about her litterbox habit changes.  This can be a sign of a urinary tract problem:

or it might even be due to a uterine mass pressing on her bladder.  Either case needs the attention of a rabbit-savvy vet, whom you can find here:

I hope she will be fine soon, and that the spay will be uneventful and fine.
