Question

Hi Dana, I asked you a question on the 13/11/09 about a skin problem on my Dwarf Lop rabbit.  You said you'd be interested in knowing the results from his biopsies.  I've managed to obtain a copy of the lab results which I have attached (hopefully it's readable). He is being treated with antibiotics(penicillin)every other day and is having a course of Ivermect- 1 injection per week.  They want to do this for a month and reassess from there.  They did suggest if this doesn't work it could be a skin disorder that he will have to live with. I confess, I completely forgot to mention about the selamectin, simply because I was trying to absorb everything else I was being told but I have to go back next week so I'll mention it then. I'd be interested to know your thoughts on the results.
Thanks
Catherine

Answer
Dear Catherine,

Since the lab results suggest that the hyperkeratosis could be due to Cheyletiella mites, then selamectin will solve this problem if it *is* due to mites.  This would be the very first thing I'd ask the vet about.  Use the Revolution as an "educated guess" treatment, and I'm betting this condition will resolve.
