Question
hi
i came home from work to find my large dwarf lop doe sitting quite happily in a hutch  with my netherland dwarf buck! i assume that i didn't lock his hutch door. tracey, the doe, is 8 years old and has the run of the garden. she had litters about 6-7 years ago and is a pet (i don't breed anymore). so i suppose the question is, up to what age is a doe likely to get pregnant? notwithstanding the logistics of my 2lb buck mounting a rabbit that is bigger and weighs more than my cats.

Answer
Dear Doug,

Yikes!  This is not good, as an eight-year old rabbit can become pregnant, but her pelvis might not be flexible enough for safe birth, even if the babies are small.  I would get her to a good rabbit vet immediately for evaluation, and if the vet thinks it's safe, to have her spayed.  Have the male neutered at the same time so that they can live together in wedded, snuggly bliss, since they've already decided they quite like each other.  :)  Rabbits thrive with the companionship of their own kind, as long as they are bonded.  Please see:

I hope this helps.
