Question
I wrote to you the othe day concerning my pregnant rabbit. well just as i was sending the message she had the babies, three of them.
I was just wondering, i havnt seen her feed them, and if she isnt feeding them how long will they live for. The three all seem healthy, but i just dont want them to die.
This morning i found another of my female rabbits with a swallon and pussy eye. The eye is mostly closed. I have wipped it with salty water. wht else can i do for her?

Answer
Rabbits generally only nurse their young once or twice a day for just a few minutes at a time (that is all it takes for the babies to get quite large, full bellies). They usually nurse when there is the least disturbance, so it can be hard to catch them nursing their young. Rabbit milk is extremelly rich, so it doesn't take a lot each day for the babies to be okay.

If they look very skinny (very noticable ribs), then you can clip her nails and hold her in the box for a few minutes each day.

The eye may have an infection in the tear duct or in the actual eye itself. The best bet would be to get the rabbit to a vet. Without being able to see the rabbit myself, it is hard for me to tell you where the infection is. That means it is hard for me to let you know what can be done about it. A rabbit vet will be able to pinpoint the cause and give you a more effective treatment. You will probably get some medicated eye drops, and the vet may flush out the tear duct.
