Wounded wild baby bunny

Question
A cat attack this poor baby cottontail bunny and it has 2 wounds. I managed to get it into a box, gave it some timothy hay and it has towels and everything in the box. Its wounds are pretty deep and ones between its ears and one in the middle of its chest. Its not bleeding anymore, but it has a pretty big tick on one ear and there is this little white stuff on the back of the other ear. Hes still alive but I really don't know what to do. I've had bunnies all of my life and have 1 right now so I really love rabbits and don't want to see this bunny die so early, i really want to help it then release it when its grown. Its eyes are open and it can run, but i'm not sure how old it is. I don't know if its mother was killed it was the only bunny I saw. Please help what should i do? I can't take him to the vet and no animal shelters accept small animals near were I live?

Answer
Dear Rachel,

This baby's life is in terrible danger from any cat wound.  He needs to be put on antibiotics immediately, or he will die.  Please find a good rabbit vet here:

www.rabbit.org/vets

for emergency care.  Antibiotics (injectible Baytril or bicillin) must be administered within a few hours of the injury, or fatal systemic infection can set in.  This information is clearly stated in my introduction/instructions, so I hope you have already read this and taken swift action.

The baby's best chance of survival, once he has the proper meds on board, is to be raised by a licensed, experienced wildlife rehabilitator, whom you can find here:

Until you can get the baby to a rehabber, here is some emergency care information:

I hope he will be okay.
