My rabbits.

Question
Hi,I have got 2 rabbits, they are both girls (they haven't been spayed yet). I have had them for about a year and a half. For a while now, one of them has been chasing the other around and pushing her bum so she runs away. A while ago, they were going through  a phase when they would violently attack eachother and it was quite bad to the point of which we separated them. They have got past this but one of them still chases the other away and she seems scared. Throughout the day they sleep next to eachother but othertimes she is petrified and it worries me. Would it help if I introduced another rabbit or 2 in, would that prevent the chasing? I would introduce them in a place non of them had been before as we are going to make a new area for them to play in so there wouldn't be any of their scents around. (They have a big outside closure)  Thank you, Sophie.

Answer
Hi Sophie,

Sometimes rabbits lose their bond.  I think that adding more rabbits to the mixture would make it worse.  I would try to separate them when you are not there to watch them but set them next to each other so they can see each other through the bars.  Then when you are home allow them to play together.  Keep a water bottle handy so that if they do start to chase that you can spray them.  This will usually make them stop and start grooming themselves.

Rabbits will squabble with each other but when they start to injure each other they do not have a proper bond.  I would recommend Rabbit.org for bonding information.  I hate to admit it but I have little patience when it comes to bonding rabbits.  I will give it a few weeks time but if they still continue to fight I will separate them.

You can also ask Dr. Dana Krempels who is also on allexperts.  I am very experienced with rabbits but she has many more years of experience and may be able to give you some other solutions.

Good Luck
