Will a boy rabbit spray around my girl

Question
I have a girl lionhead rabbit. Next week her and I are going to fair and I'm thinking about getting a male. Would I be able to keep them in the same room without him spraying? Because I don't want to have to clean up the mess. If he will spray will I be able to keep him out side in a little barn? (The barn also has a mower in it).

Answer
Hi Lindzy,

It all depends on the rabbits.  Some rabbits spray whether there is a girl around or not.  I have found that rabbits that are neutered before they reach sexual maturity tend to not spray.  However since you are using these rabbits for the fair you can't show them if they aren't intact.  Your best bet is to just watch him.  If he starts to spray then move him to the secure shed.  Keep in mind that the interior of a shed can become quite hot in Ohio summertime.

Are you anywhere near Caldwell, OH?  If you are please send me a private message.  There is a rabbit event going on there this weekend with a lot of very knowledgeable people that would be happy to help you with your questions.

Good luck with your bunnies
