Keeping my rabbits bunnies

Question
QUESTION: My rabbit had a litter of five three weeks ago and we have decided to keep them. We are currently in the middle of making a big hutch to keep them all in, but i was wondering do I have to separate the bunnies from the mother at a later stage to stop them from drinking the mothers milk or will they stop themselves??

ANSWER: hello caroline

its great that you are keeping them, at least you know they will have a nice home.

they should stop drinking their mothers milk by themselves, once they are eating solid food they should not drink the milk as much anyway.

do you have boys and girls babies? are you going to be breeding them? if so then i wouldnt keep them all together as the mums will want their own space.

let me know if i can help you with anything else

hope this helps

QUESTION: Thanks for all you help Sarah!!!
I have a one male and one female rabbit (the mother and father).
The mother and father a seperated at the moment and are in different cages.
No I am not going to be breeding them but we're going to organise to get them nuetered as soon as they're old enough!!
When I'm putting them into the new hutch I'm able to let the father live in the same cage then, aren't I?

Answer
hello

your welcome. happy to help.

i wouldnt put him staright in the cage at first, put them together in a new environment such as a run so they get used to eachother that way, as they may turn aggressive or fight if put in a cage together.

hope this helps
