Question
hi,
I have a neutered male who lives on his own. He is very dependent of us, I also have two guinea pigs and when we get them out for a cuddle, he completley ignores us and runs away when we go to him. I would love to get him a girlfriend but according to his jealous behaviour I'm not sure he'd get  on with one. Can you give me any advice on what to do about getting him a companion?

Answer
Dear Katie,

AW!  Your bunny must love you very much if he gets that jealous of the guinea pigs.  But you are very wise to be cautious about a female companion for him.  With a bunny like yours, it's *extra* imperative that *he* be the one to choose the female companion he likes.

Rabbits are very choosy about their mates, and a "surprise" bunny would likely just get her ears ripped off or just make him so angry that he'd snub you or worse.  It's a pretty easy matter to contact your local rabbit rescuer and set up a "blind date" for Mr. Jealousy with several of their eligible, spayed females.  The foster "mom" will be familiar with their personalities, and can help you determine whether the interactions of the two bunnies signals a potential good marriage, or whether it's doomed to failure.

Love at first sight is rare, but it does happen.  Final bonding can take a bit of work on your part, but there are plenty of excellent articles on how to do this at:

www.rabbit.org/

Just put in "bonding" as the keyword in the search engine at the very bottom of the page, and a list of good articles will come up.

Also, you can click on the "chapters" button on that page (the bunny icons on the sides of the text are all links) to find the rabbit rescuer nearest to you.

I hope that helps!  Please write back if you have any other questions or if you think I can help in any other way.
