Seizure

Question
Something has happened to Ms. She. She has not been out of the cage since the weekend and has been fine and was fine all day yesterday. I got home last night at 8:30 and it sounded like she was having a seizure. I brought her inside and held and calmed her down. At 10:30 she did it again and I called the emergency vet and was told it was probably a broken spinal cord but that they would not know without x rays. They said $88 to walk through the door and then whatever they did was extra but for a rabbit they would probably have to put it to sleep. I have been on here all night looking for hopeful stories and have gotten no where. She went from 10:30 to now, 3:00 (now with squeals) with no problem but she is in a little carry case in the kitchen. She sits fine with her legs under her as normal and than she has a fit and they are out to the side. I have seen her move like normal a little but when she tries to move long distances it starts. The vet said that rabbits can easily get scared and jump in the cage and hurt themselves. She had to do this because she has not been out and has been fine. I fed and pet her before I left for work and Chris and the kids were out all day right near her. She ate all her food. What could it be and what do I do? I can't afford to spend alot of money especially if she is terminal. We lost a dog to poisoning 3 months ago. This is hard on my children.

Answer
Dear Li,

You need to get your rabbit to a vet who knows more about rabbits than the one you already have seen:

www.rabbit.org/vets

This could be anything from poisoning to dehydration to heat stroke to the early signs of an inner ear infection leading to head tilt:

www.rabbit.org/health/tilt.html

but I can't tell from an internet description.  I hope a more experienced rabbit vet will be able to give you a better diagnosis.  If she's sitting in a normal position, I really doubt she has a broken back.  Please get her to a good rabbit vet for proper care.

I hope this helps.
