Question
how do i keep the smell down in my pigs litter box or can i feed her something to keep the smell down?

Answer
The feces and urine from a healthy pot-bellied pig fed a proper diet should have little or no smell. But urine-soaked newspaper or pine shavings can reek! Also, "near misses", where piggy goes next to but not in the litter box, will leave an unpleasant odor long after the mistake itself is gone.

The best solution is to use as little litter as possible. Change it daily and wash the litter box with soap and water. If the litter box has a slippery floor use a rubber mat on it, and wash the mat when you wash the box. Some people use no litter at all, only a rubber mat.

If the litter box sits on a rug or floor mat, wash that, too. If it's small and washable, toss it in the washer and dryer. Otherwise, use a carpet cleaner on it. Make sure piggy uses the box and that everything goes into the box and is not soiling the floor around the box. Use a product designed to remove pet odors, such as the ones with enzymes or the one from Heartland designed to clean piggy mistakes.

One of my pigs outgrew his box, he'd stand with all four feet in the box, but his butt hung over the edge so his poops landed on the floor next to the box. I solved the problem by putting the litter box on some cheap towels, and washed them frequently.

If the problem is smelly feces or urine, the problem may be piggy's diet. Feeding pigs dog food makes horrible smelling feces! Feed piggy a pot-bellied pig food supplemented with fresh veggies and some fruits as treats.

Heartland sells several products to address piggy odors, including a feed supplement, a special litter box litter, and de-odorizing cleaner.
