Question
I bought a mini pot belly in February, with the intentions of keeping him. Last month my grandmother had a stroke and taking care of both of them has just been too much. I don't want to get rid of him, but I need to. I don't know how to go about finding him an appropriate home, please help!

Answer
I'm sorry to hear about your grandmother. One option you might consider is moving your pig outside. Pigs do just fine outside in Florida, and outdoor pigs are much less work than indoor pigs.

If you need to place your pig, start with www.farec.org. Send an email with a description and photo of your pig directly to farec. Then, look under Sanctuaries, and contact the sanctuaries near you. Chances are they will be full, but they might have a contact looking to adopt.

Also visit www.pigplacementnetwork.com  There's a database of pigs available for adoption and people seeking pigs to adopt.

Ask your vet if you can put up a photo of your pig and adoption information on their bulletin board. Contact your local humane society and aspca and ask them for referrals to any smaller, local rescues. Avoid Craigslist, people often look there for free pigs for bbq. If you must go with Craigslist, ask for a substantial rehoming fee to avoid the people looking for a free roast.
