Wild mice

Question
Hi,
My kitten found a wild mouse earlier and he was playing around with it, my friend Holly and I saved him and brought him inside. We fed him and gave him water. He has hurt his leg and has a cut on his side, but seems to be getting better and is walking. We were wondering if we should let him go or keep him until he is completely better?
Thank You

Answer
Mice have short lifespans, even in captivity. In the wild predators are rarely able to catch the strongest and healthiest animals, they catch the older slower ones. So chances are that George the Mouse is an older mouse and may not live long either way.
If you want to release him, as long as he eats, poops, and can move quickly he'll be ok. If he's moving slowly, and doesn't seem very active then you might want to try keeping him awhile longer. Mice like empty toilet paper or paper towel tubes to chew, he will need to chew to keep his teeth the right length.
Good luck with George
