Hi again!! well Pau- Pau pig is feeling much better...
Anyways, I just got a call that there is a female PBP in need of a home, she about 1 year old and has not been spayed. She is being sold for $50.00 (UGGH :@()
I would to help and at least foster the pig until there's a new home found. You see in S. FL people will buy these pigs from people who are desperate to get rid of their pigs and do un thinkable things... Such a big, big risk...
Pau- Pau is almost 9 months and neutered, I rescued him late February. What are the consequences by bringing home the female? I just could not stand the thought of anything bad happening to her... What can be expected?

Male pigs are fertile for up to 30 days after neutering, so it seems that Pau-Pau is "safe". There is a risk of disease, but even in places like FL that is rare. If you have the facilities the standard recommendation is to keep the new pig in quarantine for 30 days. The average house or yard pet is most likely healthy, maybe even fully vaccinated.

What is common is mange, if the new pig has mange, Pau-Pau will need treatments right along with her. Two treatments two weeks apart is necessary, for severe situations, three or more treatments might be needed.

The only other issue is that piggy introductions can look rough to humans. The pigs need to decide between them which one is Alpha pig. People often have the urge to intervene and protect the underdog, but that just prolongs the pig disagreements. It helps to put the pigs where they can see and hear but not touch each other for a couple of days, and switch their bedding so their beds smell like the other pig.

When introducing them, smear a little Vaseline on their ears and butts. This makes it hard for them to get a grip and bite. They may be noisy and charge each other while foaming and chomping. Often this is harder on the humans than the pigs, so I recommend putting them together then walk away and distract yourself for a few hours.
