lately last week i took my pbp named Wilbert he is 8 months old i got him in october to the local park everyone loved him than when we were walking home i was carrying him cause the cars scare him and i dont want him running into the street so he starts humping me he knows that is bad. so i say bad and no. than he starts this weird grunt and tries jumping on me i say no and he starts chasing me i want to hit him but its wrong and i couldnt hit my baby.... its a week later and he keeps doing this grunt not always but sometimes he jumps on my leg.....usally when he does this grunt its because he knows he did something wrong like it the cat food or something now he does it and tries to hump me i dont know wat to do......

i go to school so i leave at 8 and i put him in a cage at 12 he gets let out and stays in the back yard till i get home my brother lets him out of the cage he has water in and out of the cage to.... i get home at 3:00pm and he just lays out there at eats grass he loves it so much and im happy for him cause he is depressed when he is in side nothing to do i guess he dies of boredum lol.... but will he get fat from eating grass? i feed him a salad and pig pellets and if he is good he gets a little hand full of dog food i dont feed him all this in one day he eats grass and when i let him in he gets 1 handful of pellets i usally let him in at 7 when its about to get dark....so can he get fat and over wieght from eating grass???

Answer
Is your pig neutered? The grunting and humping is characteristic of an intact male pig. Having him neutered is the only way to fix this. There's a list of vets who see pot-belleid pig at www.farec.org

Pigs love to graze. Grass is high in fiber and low in calories, and makes pigs feel really full. It also makes them bloat up with "grass belly" and can give them gas. The only other potential problem with grazing is what might be sprayed on the grass. Do not let piggies graze on grass that's been treated with pesticides, herbicides, or fertilizers.

Not all pigs love mud and water, it can be an acquired taste. As long as piggy is not overheating, this is not a problem. You can teach piggy to enjoy playing in water by floating a few pieces of apple or other treats in a shallow wading pool, that piggy can easily step into and out of. Do this on a warm day, and use room temperature water.

I highly recommend the book Pot-Bellied Pig Behavior and Training by Priscilla Valentine. Pris really understands why pigs think and why they do the things they do. She also goes into training in much more detail than I can here.
