New Piglet at Home

Question
QUESTION: I'm only learning about baby piglets - I just brought one home at 7 weeks old and I've had her home 1 week.  She will just now come up to me, but when I reach to pet her she backs up.  When I pick her up - she breaks the sound barrier!  I know they don't like to be picked up so I'm wondering if I should STOP trying to pick her up and stressing her out or if I should continue to pick her up so she gets used to it.  After a week, she still seems extremely wary of me - I would have thought she would be a little more used to me by now.  Because she's so young, am I expecting too much too soon?  How much handling, etc. should I be doing right now?  Thanks so much for your help - I am in DESPARATE need!!!

ANSWER: Hello,
This is pretty normal for many piglets.
Go to the royaldandie.com web site and purchase the Infinity Plus Training Harness/Leash and DVD.  This will get you going in the right direction with your new piglet.
Most piglets don't like to be picked up directly off the ground.
After you get the leash try getting down on the floor, scooping her up on your lap and then into your arms.  Now stand up with her.
She should eventually learn not to scream and she won't be stressed out.
Hope this helps!
Good luck with her,
Patty

QUESTION: Thanks for the info.  One more question...how long and/or at what age does it typically take for the babies to get used to you?  I will order the training DVD and halter/leash.  Thanks again

Answer
There is no certain age for this to happen as they are all very much individuals.
When you get the Infinity Plus Leash and DVD and use the techniques I show you you will be amazed at how fast your piglet will respond.
I know you will be happy with the result.
