after having babies

My mini pig had babies about 6 weeks ago. Everything is fine with the babies and they are eating great! But the mamma pig has lost a large amount of weight even after continuing to eat as normal... is this usual while nursing?

Yes, it is, especially if piggy had a large litter. The babies are old enough to start exploring real foods. Room temperature milk or goat milk is a good introduction for them. If you feed Momma pig moist pellets, and put a little bit in shallow dishes, the babies will imitate her and taste the pellets. When the babies are eating on their own and Momma pig weans them, Momma pig will start to regain the weight.
