My old Pig and possible Arthritis

My old boy is now 11 years old.  I raised him from a bottle from 3 days old.  He is slowing down now quite a bit which is natural at his age but I am noticing that his legs seem to be a bit stiff and tender mainly in the mornings.  I've also noticed some mild limping sometimes and he does not want to walk around and/or graze as much these days.  I've raised several pigs over my life and I'm sure it's arthritis setting in.  Any suggestions on what I can give him daily (medicine wise) that might help.  I've looked into Glucosamine and Chondroitin...but there's no real proof out there that it helps.  Can he be given Aleve, Advil or Tylenol daily to help out.  Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

Arthritis is a real possibility at 11 years old. Many people think the nutritional joint supplements made for horses help by improving overall health.

The usual dosage for baby or childrens aspirin is 325 mg per 75 lb of pig. The real problem is that it is very, very hard to estimate a pigs weight just by looking at him. So before using this, or any other medication, it's important to either weigh him accurately, or use the weight by measurement method found on www.farec.org to deterime the correct dosage.

Rimadyl is what veterinarians usually prescribe for arthritis. It's a NSAID (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug) similar to Advil.

Both aspirin and NSAIDs can cause stomach problems. Always give them with food. It helps to keep piggy on Pepcid AC or something similar when taking these drugs.
