6-week-old pbp

Question
Hi. I have had my female pbp for one week and she has been grazing, eating mini-pig youth pellets and drinking water. The man I got her from said she was five-weeks-old when I got her, and weaned. She has had firm stools until last night. Now she has very runny and light tan colored stools and I have not changed anything in her diet. She is also very itchy and we rub Aveeno unscented oatmeal lotion on her daily, which has helped some. I was wondering if she possibly has mange and/or internal parasites. I know she has never been wormed or vaccinated. I just wanted a suggestion from an experienced person before I take her to the vet. I had read about treating with Ivomec for swine, 1% solution, given orally at 2/10 of a cc per 10 lbs. body weight. What are your thoughts? Is she too young to give this to? or do you have a better suggestion? Thank you so much for your time.

Answer
Hello,
I does sound like your piglet needs to be wormed with Ivomec.
At such a young age you probably should contact your Vet about the dosage.
Be careful about letting her graze on grass.  Grass is very high in protein and can
have growth hormone it.
The high protein is probably what is causing the change in her stools.
These little pigs need to be maintained on 12% to 14% protein.  she is getting a lot more than that by eating grass.
She needs to be on her piglet chow, a few fruits and veggies and lots of water at all times.
Hope this helps,
Patty
