Question
Hi Helen,

I found an ordinance saying Pot-Belly Pig: A domesticated miniature Vietnamese, Chinese or Asian pot-bellied or pot-belly pig
not exceeding one hundred twenty-five pounds in weight and not exceeding eighteen inches in
height measured at the shoulder.
(Added by Ord. No. 10006 (N.S.) adopted 9-16-09)

But I'm worried this might not be true.  Is there any way you could help me.
Thanks so much.

Answer
I'm not quite sure I understand your question. I think you are asking, is there such a thing as a pig that will meet these ordinance requirements?

Yes, there are adult (5+ years) pigs that are 125 lb or 18 inches. But, many are not. And a high price tag or fancy advertising is no guarantee a pig will stay small. Several pig rescues have taken in 200 lb "teacup" piglets that were sold over the internet for a couple of thousand dollars. These pigs were never supposed to be over 50 lb.

In other words, if the price is high and the claim seems outrageous, it's probably not true.

The best way to find a pig that will meet these requirements for sure is to adopt an adult. Many pig rescues and sanctuaries have both adults and babies available for adoption. The size of the parents can be a good indication of the size of the baby when grown. Remember pigs grow quickly until they are 2, then more slowly until age 5 or so.

Also keep in mind that pigs are much denser than dogs. If you have a pig and dog the same size, the pig will weigh more, sometimes twice as much as the dog.
