Yes, that is in fact the vet I was talking about. I wish I could find more info so I could know if he is really knowledgeable about rats. I just know that they would see my gerbil.

I can tell you that he is absolutely NOT an exotic specialist, that is one thing I can tell you since he is not a part of the AEMV which ALL exotic vets are a member of across the world, actually. If he says he sees exotics, what he claims in order to be "legal" about it is that he has a "special interest" in exotics which in no way means he has taken continued education course in exotic animal studies nor did he take the state boards to become a certified exotic vet.  The vets get away with saying they have a SPECIAL INTEREST an it is misleading to the public and right off they say they see an exotic vet when he is in no way really one at all.  
The worst part is these vets also try to substitute kitten and puppy sized implements when doing surgery since they do not have small scale tools etc..which can be lethal to your rat and alot of times they dont even have a proper place to keep the rat. An exotic vet usually has several enclosures that are used for oxygen and nebulizing and for warmth in a critical care setting and they also have great cages for them, also usually enclosures with a steel gate front. These non exotic vets also dont have the right meds..there is nothing worse for me than to have someone write and say their vet gave their rat pills to cut into pieces and mash up.  These vets SHOULD have elixirs and liquids available to properly dose these small animals. Truth is, they are using kitten and puppy doses for the rats.  These vets can be more harm than good.
However, there are some vets that are fantastic with small animals and some have even gone out on the limb and have proper sized implements for small mammals...but unfortunately there are more that DONT than do.

Dont mean to scare you but trust me, I have seen alot and alot of imposters too which really makes me angry!!
