Confused with Baytril 25 mg

Question
QUESTION: Hi Sandra. I have relatives who just arrived from the Philippines to visit, before coming here I asked them to visit a local vet and see if they could get a couple of bottles of the injectable Baytril 'cause I know that it would be a whole lot cheaper and I can just keep 'em in the fridge just in case I might end up using them in the future (but hopefully not, I'm very happy that my boys are healthy). Gah, I am talking in circles again and I apologize :D to make the long story short, they did bring out 2 bottles of Baytril but it didn't say what the percentage is, it just said 25 mg (each mL contains: enrofloxacin 25 mg). I would love to know what the proper dosing would be for future reference. I saw the dosing at rat guide and it only gave dosing guides for Baytril 2.27%, 2.5%, etc. but no 25 mg. Just to double check, the injectable Baytril can also be given orally, am I correct? :D I always get confused with things, as you can tell...Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Regards,
Phoebe

ANSWER: Hi Phoebe

Is the baytril manufactured by Bayer and does the bottle have a pink or maroon label on it?

Also this is correct to say 25mg on the box or bottle.
The next step up would be 100mg per ml which is made for cattle!! LOL

Also, Yes, the injectable can be given orally although it is NASTY so you will need to mix it with something palatable when you dose them. I usually use a little bit of chocolate ice cream.

One thing though, do NOT put the baytril in the fridge. It should be kept cool, not cold, and in a darker place, such as a closet.

Many medications should not be kept cold with the exception of the suspensions that lose their potency after several weeks.

QUESTION: Hi Sandra!

Thanks for the fast reply (as usual :D), yes it is the same baytril manufactured by Bayer. I'm glad I didn't put the bottles in the fridge yet, it's been sitting in my rats shelf. With my 25 mg baytril is it right to follow the dosing for baytril 2.27% which is .20 mL/lb? I hope I'm not getting on your nerves :)

Thanks again.
Phoebe

Answer
Yup, the baytril I have now is 22mg per ml and I dose mine a bit higher at .40mls (they are HUGE boys) so you would keep yours at .20 mls. but this is also based on your rats weight.

and NO your not getting on my nerves!! :0 This is why I am here...to help!
