Rat Respitory Infection

Question
So my baby dumbo rat has been on meds for her respitory infection.  She's on doxycicline and baytril because she was getting worse.  While my vet also perscribed Avi-x vitamin A supplement.  It has the consistancy of butter and has to be melted and given .05 ml like the rest of her meds, well when I give it to her, she seems to do this cough when she breathes things. I'm not sure that if it makes her want to throw it up (though I know rats can't vomit) or if she's accidently inhaling it.  First of all is it okay to be giving this to her even though it's for birds, and if it seems to upset her should I just stop giving the vitamin A to her?

Answer
Does this vet routinely see rats? Do you trust that he knows what he's doing?

If not.. stop giving her the vitamin. I've never ever heard of a vet prescribing a bird vitamin to be used in such a fashion.. and I think it's unnecessary! I hate to be so quick to judge, but I personally think thats just hooey.

If you want to give her vitamins, try using vitamin-fortified treats, rose hips and other healthy foods.
