possible eye infection?

Question
Hello, I recently purchased 2 hairless rats (about 2 months ago). I brought
them home and I've noticed that one of them usually has one of her eyes
slightly closed. At first it seemed like she might have just been light sensitive
but now that it's been so long and she's still doing it in just that one eye I'm
thinking it might be some kind of infection. There hasn't been any discharge
or swelling. Just today I noticed a little poryphin staining. The other rat she's
with is fine and her other eye is fine as well. Any advice would be
appreciated. Thanks

Answer
Hairless rats are very prone to infection but if there is no swelling or discharge, her eye alone is normal and not cloudy she may have an ingrown hair. Sometimes the eye lashes grow inwards causing discomfort. Check and see if you notice anything like that happening.
Since hairless rats do not have eye lashes or brows to protect their eyes, they are often open to debris getting in them and irritating the eye itself, or it could be a little hair from her bottom lash that is turned inward or ingrown, causing some discomfort.  Take a close look in a well lit room and see if you notice any little hairs curled inward, sort of like their whiskers curl inward.  I love hairless rats. They look like wrinkled armadillos.  LOL
