Rat nose bleed

Question
hi my rat is 13 months old. I feed him every day unless his bowl is full, he gets plenty of water and gets lots of attention and he gets out to run about a lot. I feed him premium rat food, he gets plenty of water and cat a lit as bedding ( the same as the other four rats we have and they are fine ). The strange thing is that he gets frequent nose bleeds and none of the other rats do and i Know this can be rat mucus but is this good or bad.

Answer
Porphin (mucus) is different from blood. Just like with people, a runny nose can be a symptom of a problem or not a problem at all - and you have to consider it just like that. If he has no other symptoms and is acting just fine, you have him on an acceptable bedding (it needs to be a recycled newspaper, hemp, aspen, corn cob, shredded soy-print newspaper or soft cloth  bedding. Cedar, Pine and Clay are known to trigger respiratory problems and should be avoided), then I'd just consider it "him" and not worry about it. If he acts funny, lethargic, sick, shows other symptoms like sneezing, gagging, raspy breathing, coat on end, etc. - then I'd worry and take him into the vet.
