sick rattie

QUESTION: My little rattie, Juan Carlos is sick. I need help. I was out of town for a week, when I returned he had the blood-looking fluid around one eye (I found you online and read about it as initially I thought it was an eye infection). I've only had ratties for a year and a half but fell so in love with them, I've rescued many, and several were pregnant when I did(which is a separate problem). I am not sure how old Juan Carlos is. I bought him from a pet shop(yes, now I know I should not have). But I love him most of all and am frantic trying to help him. Along with his eye having the discharge, his coat is unusually rough, his back more hunched than normal and his breathing is rapid. The only vet here I could find who treats rats is out of the country for two weeks. I had clydomycin which I have been giving him. No matter what I mix it with, he hates it, and I have to force it in him. I have a heating pad in his house, and put vicks vapor rub inside and a blanket over the top to help him breathe. I have called my own doctor to ask for the baytril and cloxyciline you mentioned in an article but can't get it. Please, tell me if there is anything else I can do, or if I am doing something wrong. Juan Carlos will hardly eat at all but does take some vanillas Ensure and baked sweet potatoes. I do understand the statement above regarding not contacting you if I can't see a vet but I must do all I possibly can right now to help my little one. I know you may not be able to answer right away. I appreciate whatever help or advice you can give. Thank you.

ANSWER: Please let me find a vet for your rat. Where are you located?  DO NOT GIVE HIM VICKS VAPO RUB. Where is the heating pad at?  He cant get it, can he?
