growth on pet rats leg

Question
I have a pet rat who is about a year and a half and has developed a growth on her right leg that kind of just moves around it is pretty big but then she also developed another growth on her left leg that had a hard consistency and looked bluish. Its gone now and now it looks like she has a big hole where it used to be but she still has the other growth on her right leg. I need to know why there is now a hole in her leg and what should i do. I can't afford surgery for her so that's not really an option. Is there something i can give her to make these things go away? She doesn't act like anything is wrong with her besides the fact that she walks a little slower. Not even the hole in her leg seems to bother her and she is still at her normal weight.

Answer
If there's now a hole where the growth was, my guess is she had an abscess, which was caused by a wound that became infected. Best thing to do is clean it as best you can with warm water and a mild anti-bacterial soap (never hydrogen peroxide) and then let it be. Unless it starts to get red/inflamed or swell, you should be fine letting it heal by itself.

The other growth - is it soft and squishy, or hard, or? That may in fact be a tumor, which usually causes no pain until they're large enough to drag on the ground and rupture open. Of course, surgery is always the best option at removing these growths, however if that isn't possible then you need to decide what to do for her later on down the line when this tumor ruptures and inevitably becomes infected. Usually, at that point, the only option is euthanasia. That could be 6 days, 6 weeks, 6 months or even a year and some change from now, however.
