house temp with pet rats

Question
My husband and I have two pet rats. They are both boys aged 4-5 months. My husband worries so much about keeping them healthy that he insists on keeping the thermometer at 80 F so they don't get cold- which he says will make them more susceptable to a respiratory infection. I love the little guys, but it's a sauna in here. I'm burning up and I don't even have fur!!! So who's right? It 80 degrees a good temp and I should just suck it up or is it TOO HOT!!!

Answer
I have to side with you Ashley. Rats do better in cold than hot temperatures. I prefer to keep my house comfortable. If I can walk around without sweating and without a sweater, its a decent temperature - somewhere between 67 and 74 degrees. Anything chilly - that is, if YOU feel chilly - is a bit too cold for them to be sitting in any sort of breeze and they should be given something warm and fleecey to curl up in. Anything warmer (if YOU feel uncomfortable at all) is too warm.. definitely too warm for ratties.

Hope that didn't start a whole new argument :)
