rats post surgery

Question
I have 8 rats in 2 different houses...recently my rat just had surgery to drain 2 abcesses.  Now all of the sudden she will attack and get messy fur...like she "puffs up" she never bit before and now we are scared to play with her because she attacks for no reason. what do i do? is this normal for a rat after surgery?

How long ago was the surgery?  Often rats will become aggressive if they are in pain, which is why I wondered when the surgery was and if she was given pain medication, which she should have been.  Where are the abscesses located?

How many rats does she live with?

Sorry to ask so much stuff but it helps me better understand what is going on.
