Urinating

Question
My rat seems to leave a small trail of urine wherever she goes. Just one though, my other rat seems to not do this but she also doesnt venture as much as the one that urinates so I dont really know if they both do it. Is there a problem or is this normal for a female rat to do?

Answer
This is normal as long as there is no blood in the urine. Rats leave trails in the wild in order to find their way back home. A urine trail left by a rat in their underground tunnels will tell the rat which route he took and they depend on this trail to navigate around in the dark tunnels at night. Its pretty interesting really as to why they do this.  They also use it to mark their territory.  It is said in the rat lover world that if your rat marks you all the time with urine, its simply an act of love.  Gross? Maybe....but easily cleaned with soap and water :)
