limping foot

Question
I have two large white rats (Remy, Emil).  This morning Remy was limping. Hi is avoiding stepping on his right hind foot.  It's not swollen.  I can touch it without it bothering him.  He was actually grooming his foot this morning.  He's sleeping now.

Answer
Hi Dianne

He probably stubbed a toe or twisted his foot a bit. If it not swollen I would not worry much and if you can touch it without protest, he should be ok. If he continues to nurse it yet nothing new has developed such as any swelling or redness or any abnormal color, you can isolate him for 24 hours in a small cage with no ladders to walk up or anything to climb on.  Keeping him calm and still should help him heal fast too...

Hope this helps!
