Question
Hi I have a question about rat feeding in regard to my two female rats. I found out quite early that Katee food is horrible for them due to the ingredients so right away I took them off Katee's rat lab blocks. I switched to oxbow regal rat after looking online and reading about it, and at first they ate it without problem, but lately they will not touch it. They'd rather wait until it's playtime when I start giving them their cheerios, dog food, and other fruits and vegetables as treats. I'm glad they are at least eating the fruits and vegetables and other things I give them, but I want them to eat the regal rat food too because that should be the base of their diet where they get most of their nutrition. I remember reading some people had trouble with their rats eating that food, but is there any way to make it more appetizing to them without having to change their brand of food altogether? (in a healthy way that I can use everyday) Like what about sprinkling cinnamon on it, or a little apple sauce every time I give them their food? Any suggestions are welcome and I figure it's best to ask an expert before I do anything as i don't want to hurt my little girls nor do I want to make them fat! thanks!

Answer
Rats do like variety. Please check my website for info on making their own healthy rat kibble. Most rats do get bored with the same food. My rats love it and get bored with it too but if they have a variety of foods to eat they end up eating a good amount of the regal rat, too.
