Question
I have a hairless rat that was recently dehydrated (due to a broken water bottle that I was unaware of for a little over a day). It's been a few days and she seems to be back to full health. Except now her poop is really soft. Incredible soft. I think it's because when we first put the bowl of water in there for her she drank excessively (understandably so), so much that her tummy swelled a little. But it is getting to be messy and I was wondering if something else could be the cause? Aside from now drinking out of a bowl instead of a bottle, nothing's changed in her diet or home. Is it because she drank a lot for a little while or should I investigate some other cause to get rid of these soft, smelly poops?

Answer
Try giving her some puffed rice and dry oatmeal flakes and see if that doesnt help. usually a dehydrated rat has dry hard stools.
Loose stools can be from stress too so being dehydrated may have stressed her a bit too.  Try the above and give it a day, see how it goes. She should improve by tomorrow.
