Rats at Night

Question
I just recently adopted two female rats. They are adorable :) I keep them in a large cage in my room. However, I am having a lot of trouble sleeping at night because the nocturnal rats make so much noise once night falls. I am a very heavy sleeper but it wakes me up several times during the night and sometimes I cannot even fall back asleep again. I am at college and rent only one room in the house I live in, so moving them out of my room is not an option. Is there any way I can train the rats to be on a similar sleep schedule as me? I love them dearly, but I also need sleep for classes and work. Please help! Thank you!

Answer
Unfortunately I don't know of any ways to train your rats to be awake during the day, if that is even possible.  If there are specific things they are doing at night that are loud like running on a wheel, chewing on toys, or whatnot, you may  be able to remove some things from their cage to make them quieter, then just put them back in the morning.  You could also try putting them in a closet at night, as long as they can get enough air and won't be able to chew on things.

I've had many rats in my room so I know exactly what you're going through =)  I eventually just learned to sleep through it, and wasn't able to stop the rats from making noise (what annoyed me most was they chewed on the bars).  I wish I could be more help; perhaps if you do an internet search you may be able to find an article about it, but I personally haven't had any luck quieting them down at night besides taking away squeaky wheels and stuff.  Good luck!
