parrot flying from house

Question
good morning and thank you.  we have been birdsitting for about a week.  this morning while the bird was in the cage, a small parrot, my wife opened the door of the house to shake out the rugs and the parrot we thought was locked in, flew out of the house.  any chance of it coming back we love it and miss it.  thanks

Answer
Don't give up. Although the bird hasn't been with you long, there's always a chance he'll hover nearby.
Put his cage outside and prop the door open with plenty of food inside.  Around dusk (if not sooner) he may return.  Leave the cage out and check it regularly for several days making sure the food and water is fresh.

Meanwhile, post "lost" posters in the neighborhoods, an ad in the newspaper and notice to local vets. These birds are so people oriented that they often gravitate toward homes rather than head out into the wild. When they're ready, they actually allow themselves to be caught.
