Question
I rescued Pretty Bird about 2 months ago.  When I got him, he was practically
bald.  The only feathers he had are a bit on his wings.  You could see his pink
bumpy skin.  He is doing much better now.  He has grown his down and
feathers are starting to come back.

My question is about the right climate for Pretty Bird.  We have an air
conditioner and since its getting much warmer, we wanted to turn it on.  Is it
alright for Pretty Bird to be in the same room as the wall unit as long as he is
not in front of it or should he be moved to another room?  I want to make
sure he is comfortable and safe, he has already been through a lot with his
previous owner.

Thanks for your help

Answer
Hello Mary,

Have you had your bird examined by an avian veterinarian yet? The feather loss is a symptom of illness, even though it's getting better, without a proper diagnosis you don't know that the condition will not return.

Fully feathered and healthy birds can be acclimated to a wide range of temperature changes and do very well. At the zoo where I worked our amazons lived outside year round.

Since your bird is missing feathers and may have a health condition then you need to discuss with your avian veterinarian your bird's particular environmental needs.
