Question
Hello, I have found a great breeder of all sorts of cocktoos and african greys, after doing some research I like the look of the goffins and according to one story I'd read they are uite a delight to live with. I think I'll get a baby from this lady later this year... he'd be handfed not sure what sex I'd be getting thou. Anyway I was wondering if these are really loud birds? are they very "talkutive? meaning do they make noise alot during the days? any more talkutive then a peach faced lovebird? I'd love to have one and even thou some days I will be working long hours I could still squeeze him in in the mornings and late evenings as well as provide a large cage and plenty of different stong toys. Do you know anythngi about goffins? are they cuddley birds according to what I found they are very loving... is it all true?

Answer
Goffins Cockatoos can be very sweet, loving and cuddley if well socialized and trained well. However, they are loud birds (they should not be kept in apartments or housing situations where neighbors live close and might be bothered by the noise) and cockatoos are very demanding and needy.  Cockatoos are MUCH, MUCH louder than lovebirds, but lovebirds tend to chatter throughout the day, where cockatoos tend to scream during certain time periods.

It is not a good idea to leave a cockatoo home alone all day long if you work full time. A cockatoo (or any larger parrot for that manner) will probably get bored and this boredom could manifest itself into problem behaviors.

Here are some really great articles on cockatoos (and goffin cockatoos in particular) that should help you decide if a cockatoo is really the right type of parrot for you:
