RATS!!

Hey.
 I just got a rat this last Saturday(7/17) from a breeder, and he was hand raised. Well, I took him home, he's in a nice, big cage, but he's being really anti-social. I try to coax him out with treats, and he'll take from my hand. but just today I tried to pet him and he kind of jolted and then bit me! Not a hard bite, mind you, I know he was being gentle, but, I don't know how to restrain that kind of behaviour! I mean, the only way to get him use to me is to put my hand in there, and talk to him, and even when I offer him food in my hand he is more interested in my hand! I don't know what I am doing wrong, is he still too "green" towards me? He's pretty old too, 7wks.

He is still very young.  He probably hasnt been handled alot but if he was hand raised he should be a nice rat.  I hand reared a rat and he was lovely.  He used to lick my hands.  It sounds to me as if he was NOT handreared.  Did the breeder get him out???  Have you got other animals such as cats or dogs around the house
