Chinchilla pulling out other chinchillas fur.

Question
I've got 2 chinchillas in a cage, both male.
They love each other.

But, just recently, my chinchilla has been pulling out the fur on my other chinchillas back.

I've been told theres a way to break it. But, I'm not sure how. And I don't seem to be finding any information on it.
Please help me

Adriana

Answer
Hi there Adriana,

It seems that he is overgrooming his mate. Chinchillas with another cagemate will usually groom eachother to show affection. I am sure by the sounds of it that there has gotten to be A LOT of grooming though.

I am not sure there is anyway to break this besides putting many different things in their cage to draw him away from this.

If you have a little look on my website, which I seen you have, :) you could look at the suppliers list there. They have many things for chinchillas, all safe and decently priced. They are my favourite suppliers which I know quite a bit and are extremely nice to work with.

Anymore questions, please ask me Adriana!

Mae.
