Question
I just got 2 8 week old rats (both female), I am learning the proper care and handeling. Can you suggest any web sites? How often should I clean the cage? How do I litter train? Any ideas suggestions or advice would be appreciated.

Answer
Hi Jessie,

Here are some useful websites about rat care:   www.dapper.com.au/articles.htm
www.petrat.ca/health.html
www.ratz.co.uk/

The above websites tell you about litter training.
A Rats cage should be cleaned about once a week, water bottles changed every other day and food bowls washed every day. The bedding should be paper based, like, Bio-Catolet, Yesterdays News, Bob Martian's cat litter or CareFresh. Shavings should never be used as these can cause a respiratory infection. Handle your rat every day, most rats like to sit on your shoulder. Feed your rats a good quilty dried rat food, like BurgessSupa Rat Food. Until they are 3 months old they should be given a higher portein diet, add to there diet Butterbeans, Tuna, EMP-egg based bird food, cottage cheese and soya milk. I have a Yahoo group, that you can have all you rattie questions answered at, post photo's of you rats, if you'd like to join visit:
