5 Orphaned Baby Mice

Question
Hi I am Amanda,

Earlier today when I was cleaning out the garbage in the front yard with my dad I came upon 1 baby mouse we looked at it and decided what to do with it. Dad picked it up with a shovel and placed it in a small nest on a log.

We were fine with it and then found 4 others there. My dad said to leave it with the other one and then we left them hoping the mother would come back.

We went out for a few hours and then came back to see the babies still there and whining and chirping like crazy. They were too cute to resist and I have a big soft spot for animals I want to be a vet some day!

Well anyways I took the small mice and brought them into my house and kept them in a small container with blankets and a sort-of warm heating bag and left it at that.

I used watered down warm milk to feed it and they seem to really like it. Me and my friend Sarah are now taking care of them keeping our eye on them every second. They seem to eat every 1 hour and a 30 min or so and I cleaned them with a Q-Tip.

Is there anything I need to know? Because I really hope the best for them they are doing pretty good so far and pooping and peeing. Ohh and their eyes aren't opened yet and their ears are pinned back. So they are Blind and Deaf still I suppose they aren't even a week old.

Thanks!

Answer
Hey Amanda,
All you really need to know is that they need to have clean shavings in their container, so change them every few days or as needed. I would suggest bread soaked in warm milk for feeding them, but if they dont eat that go back to watered down milk.  Separate the males from females as soon as you're able to tell them apart, and just keep your eye on them and make sure they all stay healthy. Other than that, Good luck :)
Thanks for your question,
Amanda
