Ringworm

Hey, I'm very upset, and I feel very bad for my rat Mel, because he is all lonely in my basement. The reason he is all lonely in my basement is because we found out that he had ringworm shortly after I had gotten it. We wanted to find out who I got it from, we were suspecting either Mel, or my cat. So we went to the vet and had tests done for fungus, and it turned out that it was Mel. And now I am not able to handle him at all, you also are able to see some of it on his tail. I am so sad that I can't give him much attention. We already tried giving him perscriptions from the vet, but it didn't seem to make it go away. So now we are trying to maybe find someone in our area that could take him into their care.

I am located in Warren OH. If you know of anyone in my area please let me know. And also if you know of anything else I could do for Mel.

Hi Julia,

Before you give her away try this. In England we have someting called Virkon, it's a pink powder that you mix with water to the strength that you want, it kills all Fungal, Bacterial, Vairal and Kennel Cough infections, it can be used on the animals Bedding, Bowls, Cage and even to wash them in. I used it on my Rat that had Mange (caused by Ringworm) and it cured her. I was just wondering if you have any thing like this in the USA? If you do then you could try it, but don't just wash the rat in it, it will need it's cage and toys washed in it about 4 times a week, bath the rat it in it about 4 times a weeks as well, do it the same day as you wash the cage. Try washing your hands in it before and after you handle the rat and clean the room with the mixture once or twice a day. It may take about a month to cure. Once an animal has had Rignworm, they don't normaly live long.

If you still want to give her away, then try you local Rescue Centre, or the Vet may know of someone.
