small and infrequent mouse litters

Question
I have been working at setting up breeding cages for my mice. I mix their food from cereals, oats, brans, grains, nuts, dog food, infant vites. I have large aquariums with mixed bedding.(cedar, corn card and paper. They have sleeping bags (tube socks cut in half, toys, wheels, wood chews, and pleanty of bottled water.) The ratio I have is 1 male to 3 females. Months can go by without a litter. Can you help me out with a better breeding program? Thanks, Rev. Lynne

Answer
My mouse population is always rising.  Your females may not be accepting the male sometimes.  Some of my mice have never had a litter yet they live with males.  It could be a fertility problem but I am not sure.  Try a cage with 2 male mice from the same litter and put in 4 females all from different bloodlines.  You might be successful then.

It is either that or they are eating the babies before you see them.

Sorry for the late reply.
