What are my mice doing?

Question
I am very concerned about my two pet mice's health
and behaviour. Recently, they have both been sort of sneezing. They are always doing it and it's quite loud for such small animals. I have actually changed the shavings to lavender scented to prevent odour and my mum seems to think this could be causing the sneezing.Any advice on what this could be and what I should do about it will be mostly appreciated. Thank you, L.Dobson.

Answer
Leanne,
It could possibly be the shavings, but they could have pneumonia.  My rat started to have this problem and we found out she had pneumonia.  You may want to try changing the shavings back.  You should also look at where their cage is. Make sure it isn't by a window or a door where they could be getting a draught from.  If you're really concerned with their health after doing this, you may want to take them to a vet. But this can be expensive, and if they're coming to the end of their life expectancy (2-3 years) you may want to let them either live out their lives, or have them put to sleep if you think they're in any pain.
Good luck, and I hope it's just the shavings,
Amanda
